What did Jesus mean when He said we would receive a hundredfold?

Many people believe that the statement Jesus made about the hundredfold return deals with money. It does not.

The Bible does teach that giving money to your church, and the poor, will cause an increased flow of money into your lives (Luke 6:38).

When Jesus made the statement on the hundredfold return, He wasn't referring to the giving of money, but the leaving of loved ones, possessions, and homeland in order to preach and share the gospel.

Notice this Scripture:
Then Peter began to say to Him, "See, we have left all and followed You."

So Jesus answered and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time - houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions - and in the age to come, eternal life."
(Mark 10:28-30)
This is a promise to missionaries! If you leave your house (in your town), mom and dad, brothers, sisters, children, and lands for the sake of the gospel, you will receive those things back one hundredfold as you serve the Lord.

The moms and dads, brothers and sisters, houses, and lands won't be your own, or the ones you left behind. Jesus is simply saying that if you go to a strange land and preach, people will be saved.

As a result, some of these people will be like a mom, a dad, a brother, or a sister. These new Christians will welcome you into their homes and families.

Persecution will also come along with all these wonderful people sharing their lives and possessions. The persecution will come as a result of preaching the gospel; it will not come from these new Christians.
