If you're serious about hearing from heaven, you need to shut out the noise of the world and do what Psalm 46:10 says: "Be still, and know that I am God."

Just quiet your mind and begin to hold a conversation with God. Talk to Him, and then listen to what He says in your heart. It is easier for me to start that at the beginning of the day before my mind gets busy and preoccupied.

Then practice maintaining a hearing heart as you go through your day by talking with the Lord.

Worship Him. Thank Him. Honor Him. Listen to Him. Obey Him. You have been invited to "come boldly unto the throne of grace" (Heb. 4:16). Accept His invitation!

And what if the Holy Spirit tells you, "Turn off that television set"? Don't argue with Him and say, "Well, Lord, I don't watch anything that is bad." God may be telling you to turn off the television because you can't hear from Him with all that noise filling your home for hours at a time!

Quiet The Noise
In our "noise generation," we're very seldom in a place where it's quiet. We have television. We have radios. We have CDs. We have videos. We have DVDs. And who knows what the next noisemaker will be?

All these different kinds of noise that surround us can distract and clutter up our minds. But when we're alone in the car without the radio on, or when we're out in the quiet of a forest, most of us can't sit there for five minutes without talking to God. When our minds get quiet, it's just natural for our spirits to want to communicate with God.

Well, that fellowship with God is what you want to cultivate. That's practicing the presence of Jesus. Just talk to Him all the time, and He'll talk back to you! Don't make Him struggle with you to get you to listen, or you'll soon become dull of hearing. Give Him opportunity to visit with you.

As you spend time in fellowship with God on a daily basis, you'll be vitally united with the Vine—Jesus Christ. When you remain in living contact with Jesus, hearing and obeying what He tells you to do, He promises that you can ask and it shall be done for you. So listen up!
