The last missionary who came out of China before the communist regime took over was a pastor. Just before he had to leave the country, he met with his congregation for the very last time.

The pastor walked up on the platform and turned to look at his congregation. Outside they could hear the marching feet of communist armies on their way to take over the land.

Then the pastor asked, "Whose fault is it that the communist regime is taking over? Whose fault is it that they are here? Is it the government's fault? No, it's not the government's fault; it's our fault. The blame lies right here. The reason I have to leave you tomorrow is that we did nothing in prayer to stop this."

The pastor's words are a sobering reminder of the importance of prayer. So now let's apply it to the day we live in. What if the Church doesn't pray for God's plans to come to pass in this hour? If the Church fails to pray, perhaps instead of a divine invasion in the next ten years, we may find ourselves, like those Chinese believers, under the rule of oppression!

Showing Us Things To Come
Can we, as believers, expect God to show us things that will happen in the future? We absolutely can! In John 16:13 KJV, Jesus told us that was one of the things the Holy Spirit would do in our lives:
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
As Jesus promised, the Holy Spirit has come to dwell in our midst and to live within us. He is called the Spirit of Truth, and He has come not only to guide us into truth, but to show us things that are to come.

That means the Lord is not just interested in helping us understand what's going on in this present moment. The Spirit of God living inside of us is also very interested in our knowing about the future.

So release your faith to receive that supernatural knowledge, and allow the Holy Spirit to begin to show you things to come. John 16:13 is yours to claim, because you are a child of God and you belong to Jesus.

The Church of Jesus Christ—A Praying Church
The Holy Spirit shows you that which is to come so you can both declare God's future purposes in faith and pray that those divine purposes would come to pass. That's just the way God operates.

If you study the Bible from the beginning to the end, you'll see a pattern. Before God does something, He tells His people what He's going to do. He does this so they will begin believing for it, declaring it and praying about it in faith.

One of God's most difficult challenges is to get us to fulfill our responsibility to pray about what He has shown us. We all want to hear what He has to say, but we don't all want to get on our knees and pray about it.

Second Chronicles 7:14 KJV says, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Notice that this divine promise is conditional. God says, "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray, I will heal their land." The healing of the land comes only when God's people humble themselves and pray.

The truth is, America is probably the most arrogant nation in the world. Unfortunately, that spirit of pride has entered the Church as well.

Too many of us think we can bring in the end-time harvest by implementing our own programs instead of getting on our knees to pray. But the fact is, we can't. We can't cause a divine invasion to take place in our own strength. Only God can do that.

Only God can send a healing revival. Only God can clean out a hospital of all its sick people. Only God can turn the hearts of rebellious teenagers back to Himself. Only God can take children out of abusive environments and put them in peaceful homes.

Only God can do it, and I believe He will do it—as we become willing and obedient to pray.
