Joined Together
The Bible tells married couples to leave the former life of living with the parents, and be joined together. Jesus said in Matthew 19:
And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.

The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, "Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?" And he answered and said unto them, "Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said,

"For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder."
(Matt. 19:1-6)
In this passage, the Pharisees asked Jesus if it was lawful to put away, or divorce, a wife for any reason. Jesus said that God created man and woman to be married.

He said that the man needs to leave his father and mother, and cut the strings to his parents. The parents should not be involved in the problems of the marriage.

Once a man and woman are married, they should separate themselves from the past securities of their parents. The man becomes the head of the house, and the woman must honor him because that is the position God has put him in.

Notice Ephesians 5:23, "For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body."

Past Friendships
Not only should dependency strings be cut from the parents, but also to past friendships. The man must cut the strings to friendships with other women, and the woman with other men.

Both husband and wife should put their energy into each other and working on their relationship and begin to build healthy friendships with other couples.

Jesus said it this way in Matthew 19:5, "And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?"

Jesus said for the man and woman to cleave to each other. In other words, husband and wife should stick to each other. Two people in a marriage should be inseparable. Jesus said that two in marriage should be one flesh.

This verse of scripture says it all. The two in marriage should leave the past securities of others, cleave to each other, and be joined together as one flesh.

Each marriage is different, but a successful marriage is one that puts the Word of God first. If both husband and wife allow the Word of God to be first place, the marriage will be blessed.

Success comes in every area of life when the Word of God is put first, and marriage is no different. Joshua 1 tells us how to be successful in every area of life:
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
(Josh. 1:8)
Be a doer of the Word in your marriage and be blessed!
