Properly understood, evangelism is not something you do once a week when you go out with your church. (Or however many times you might go out.) Evangelism should be part of your everyday life—it's a lifestyle. You can be an evangelist every day.

People in my ministry become confident, bold, and increased with wisdom when they begin street witnessing, and this confidence helps them to share Jesus with their family, friends and coworkers.

People discover that when they are faithful to go out on the streets to witness, God opens doors for them to share the Gospel throughout the week. They become more "evangelistically aware." It's truly exciting to be used of God anytime and anywhere to help someone get saved and often when you least expect it.

One time I was ministering in a church in Jacksonville, Florida. After the service, the pastor and some of the people from his church took me out to eat at a restaurant. Our waitress was a 19-year-old girl named Shawna. We were full of the joy of the Lord, and all of us were laughing.

When she came up to our table she made a comment about how happy we were. I held up my glass and asked if I could get a slice of lemon in my water. At that moment, the Spirit of God fell on Shawna and she started laughing with the rest of us. The anointing on her was so strong that she became hot and started to fan herself with the menu.

She left to get the lemon and when she came back, I said to her, "Shawna, I'm a pastor and I've been taking a survey. I'd like to ask you a question. If you died today, do you know for sure you'd go to heaven?"

She gave me an emphatic, "Yes." I asked her, "What would be the reason you would go to heaven?" She said, "Because I'm a good person."

I went on to explain to her that it's good to strive to be a good person, but the good news is that it's not by anything we do that gets us into heaven. It's what Jesus did on the cross and that we can't work our way into heaven. We talked a while and then I asked her if she would like to receive Jesus. The Spirit of God was on her so strong that she cried all through the prayer.

This is not an isolated incident. This happens to me and to people in my ministry all the time. It's because evangelism is a lifestyle to us. And because of that, God sends people our way.

Like the apostle Paul said, we are to "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine" (2 Tim. 4:2).
