Much like our intrepid ancestors who risked all for freedom and faith, we too are called to Stand up, Speak up and Never shut up for the cause of the Gospel.

One Nation Under God. That is the spiritual and political legacy of the Great Awakening. By the late 1700’s all of America in some measure experienced the Scriptural truth that, in Christ, all are brothers and sisters. Highborn or commoner, great merchant or poor farmer, magistrate or solider all were equal at the foot of the Cross.

Because of this “Awakening” people knew that heaven was open to all who accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The equality of believers was emphasized more than ever in American Churches. Because of this dedication…the sentiment of equality began to extend into civil government as well.

Freedom…this word became the catch phrase of our ancestors. Here is the seed of the Democracy which would be embodied by the Constitution of the United States. In America resistance to oppression was a favorite topic in pulpits. For example, Rev. Josiah Quincy preached;
In defense of our civil and religious rights, with God on our side, we fear not the hour of trial, though the hosts of our enemies should cover the field like locusts…in the Name of Jesus we will go against this multitude.
In fact, the phrase, “No King but Jesus…No King but Jesus…No King but Jesus, could often be heard across our Nation. Today, my dear friends , we must rise up again and declare Liberty for all in Jesus’ Name.

Much like our intrepid ancestors who risked all for freedom and faith, we too are called to Stand up, Speak up and Never shut up for the cause of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In memory of those who have gone before and with hope for those who will come after us WE must STAND in faith together…NOW. Let your voices be heard this weekend as we Celebrate the 4th of July!

Have a very happy, healthy and joy-filled Independence Day!
