"I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me" (John 14:30 NKJ).

Here the Lord Jesus is talking to His disciples about the enemy, Satan - he has nothing in Me, He tells them. No power, no dominion, no mastery, no control, no handle, nothing to grasp on to - all these thoughts are expressed in this statement.

Other translations of this phrase read: "...he has no hold over Me;" "...he has no rights over Me;" "...he has no sins to work on;" "...he has no claims on Me;" and "...he has nothing in common with Me."

It is as though the Lord is saying: "I am so completely covered by the Father's protection that there are no handles on Me for the enemy to grab hold of. Nothing about Me is available for his grasp."

The Lord has made it possible for all Christians to be completely covered by His righteousness and divine protection so that when the tempter comes to grapple with us, he can get no hold on us. The shield of faith is given to us against the fiery darts of the wicked one. This shield covers our total personality.

Every area of our life can be protected from Satanic assault. Our thoughts, words, imaginations, actions, will, work, recreation, social activities - all can be covered by the shield of faith.

When Satan comes around to assail us, we will be able to say, "The ruler of this world is coming, but he has nothing in me. Nothing is exposed for his exploitation."

John says that the evil one cannot touch us (1 John 5:18). Praise God for His covering and protection!
