In Mark 7, we find the account of a woman who overcame a huge giant in her life because she refused to take offense. This woman’s daughter was vexed by a devil.
Now, think about that particular giant. If your daughter had a devil, you’d have trouble, wouldn’t you?
This desperate mother went to Jesus looking for help. But when she heard what Jesus had to say to her, she had to make a choice: to receive what He said in humility and faith, or to take offense and miss the miracle God had for her.
This is the woman’s story:
For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet: The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.
But Jesus said unto her, “Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.”
(Mark 7:25-27)
When Jesus said to this woman, “It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it unto the dogs,” she could have taken offense and said indignantly, “Jesus called me a dog!”
She could have told her daughter, “Come on, Honey, let’s get out of here! Did you hear what He called us?”
But if the woman had done that, she would have missed the miracle God had planned for her daughter’s life, and the giant she was facing would never have been overcome.
Thank God, the Syrophoenician woman did not become offended. Instead she responded with humility:
And she answered and said unto him, “Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs.”
And he said unto her, “For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.”
(Mark 7:28,29)
Healing came to that little girl! Deliverance came and set her free!
Why? Because that desperate mother humbled herself before the Lord and did not get offended!
