“And (add) to knowledge temperance….”
We start with faith as our foundation and then we add to it virtue, knowledge and now temperance. What is temperance? Temperance is self-control. It is the quality of the divine nature that demands that a higher power than us gets His way.
Self-control simply means controlling ourselves. That seems to be a trait that is fast disappearing from today’s society.
The Message Bible says: “So don’t lose a minute in building on what you’ve been given, complementing your basic faith with…alert discipline….”
Self-disciple is needed in our Christian walk. There are many distractions and illusions that try to turn us from our relationship with God. We have been given great authority to rule and reign with Christ on this earth.
But the first place we need to exercise that authority is on our own self. Don’t fall short in your spiritual understanding by letting your own will and we run wild. Instead, add self-control to your knowledge.
I add self-control to my faith. I exercise the power of God over myself for God’s glory.
