“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue….”
We start with faith in God and then Peter tells us to add virtue to it. Virtue is Christian energy. Virtue is power from God to do the God things in our life. Virtue is a determination that keeps us going even if the road is long and the way is difficult. Virtue is moral excellence. It is the divine nature at work in us reproducing God’s moral character in us.
The Message Bible says: “So don’t lose a minute in building on what you’ve been given, complementing your basic faith with good character….”
Moral character is the trademark of the Christian life. We are to allow God to build His life and His divine nature into our lives. He does it through the Word. God’s Words carry with them the ability of God to perform the promise made by our Father.
Receive His Word and you receive His ability. So make a determined effort to study God’s Word and get to know Him personally. Add virtue to your faith.
I add virtue to my faith, which is the divine characteristic of moral excellence.
