Loving Our Enemies – Seeing Ourselves in Our Response Part 1

Valentine's Day was established by Pope Gelasius in 500 A.D. and was named after one or more of the early Christian martyr's named "Valentine." The day has become one where those in love express that love to one another in a variety of forms. However, as with much...

Proverbs 3:5 NIV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.

Do your dreams fall within the realm of logical possibility or do they only seem credible if their probability of fulfillment is definable by human understanding? Alternatively, do your dreams require the element of the miraculous in order to be realized?

In Pastor Mac’s current teaching series at Living Word, The Impossible Dream, he encouraged us to dream with God’s possibilities in mind, not simply our own. He stated, “If you dream within the limits of your own understanding, you leave God out, and He’ll not be bringing the miraculous to bear in the pursuit of that dream.”

It’s easy to rely on what we know, but God wants us to learn to trust in Him. As Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”

Pastor Mac noted, “I have a tendency to make the things that I see can work more credible in my thinking and in my approach. I look for ways to do something that I feel my talent or my ability has a chance of accomplishing.” However, he went on to explain that is a dangerous way to dream because it leaves God out of it. God wants to partner with us in the pursuit of our dreams. We can do things naturally. God adds the “super” to our natural.

Now, allowing God to do supernatural things doesn’t mean we can delegate the responsibility for our dreams to Him and say, “Lord, I’m going to believe You will do this.” Our responsibility is to do everything we can do in the natural to promote God’s purpose. There are things we do in the natural to move toward that dream, and then we trust Him to add the miraculous, or supernatural, as needed when we come to a place that we can’t negotiate without Him.

That process is illuminated in Philippians 3:14: “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Every child of God has a high calling God has given to them. He has prepared things for each one of us that Paul tells us eye hasn’t seen and ear hasn’t heard before. (See 1 Corinthians 2:9.) God has a magnificent plan for our lives, and we begin to move toward that plan through deliberately dreaming about where God wants to take you in life.
