Compassion Commissions Care

by Tim Davidson | A Verse A Day

“But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.”

(Matt. 9:36 NASB)

When Jesus looked at the multitudes of people, He called them sheep without a shepherd. That means they were bewildered, stressed, troubled, depressed and helpless, like sheep get without a shepherd. Jesus was moved with compassion concerning them.

That means He could do something about their condition. As the Great Shepherd of the sheep, Jesus took them in as His own flock and provided for their care, safety, and welfare.

The Message Bible says: “When he looked out over the crowds, his heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep with no shepherd.”

We are now the body of Christ. We are the ones that God will move with compassion to care for the flock of God today. The works of Jesus cover a multitude of actions and expressions. The heart of the shepherd is the heart of Jesus.

He loves sheep even when then bite. The closer we walk to Him, the more like Him we will be.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

Jesus moves me with His compassion to care for His loved ones, the flock of God.
