Do I Have to Attend a Certain Church to Go to Heaven?

by Joseph Cameneti | Articles, Christian Living

I recently left a church in Florida. The pastor, along with others in the church, told me that I lost my salvation when I left and that I could not go to Heaven unless I came back to their church. I’m so confused. What does the Bible have to say to someone like myself?

It’s a shame that any church would misrepresent the Bible. Salvation doesn’t come through a church, but through a personal relationship with Jesus. Look at what the Bible has to say:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(John 3:16 KJV)

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
(Eph. 2:8-10 KJV)

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
(Rom. 10:9-13 KJV)

Salvation is not a result of church membership; it is a result of an individual accepting Jesus as their Savior. I would stay away from any church that does not believe salvation comes by faith and faith alone.
