When I was a young boy, ten o’clock was our official city curfew. Nobody under eighteen years of age was allowed on our streets after that hour.
The local radio broadcasters loved to announce this curfew hour by declaring in strange sounding, almost ominous tones: “It’s 10 o’clock. Do you know where your children are?”
Today, as you read this, I want to ask you the same question, but for drastically different reasons. “Do you know where your children are?”
Your answer to this question may well determine the eternal welfare of your entire family! Quickly, you might answer: “Yes sir, Brother Thompson, I know where my kids are. They are sitting on a sofa in the next room.”
Or, you may say: “They are on the next block, over visiting with a friend.”
For some of you, this seemingly simple question will trigger painful and repulsive realities. You may be waiting to receive that first telephone call from your child in several years. You may even question if your son or daughter is still alive.
Fortunately, in the literal sense, most of you will have some idea of where your children are. But that’s not what I want you to think about today.
Parents, do you know where your children are, not just in the physical sense, but do you know where they are…
- in their minds?
- in their spirits?
- in their hearts?
I pray that right now this message will both shock and alert you to realize…. It is time we know where our kids are!
