“For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
You might hear some people say that being a Christian is not easy and walking with God is a real hardship. They say life is heavy because, as a Christian, they receive a lot of criticism and maltreatment. Yet, Jesus says that His yoke is easy, useful, and good. It’s not cruel, tough, thorny, or difficult to handle.
Jesus says it’s comfortable, suitable, and appropriate to those who put it on. The difference comes from the stance we take concerning our union with Jesus. Try to deal with the affairs of life or with the expectations of our Christian walk by your own power and you will be heavy and burdened unnecessarily. But be yoked to Jesus and be at peace with yourself.
The Message Bible says: “Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
It’s all a matter of perspective. How are you living your life? Are you yoked together with Jesus, or are you pulling all the weight alone? If you get ahead of or fall behind Jesus, you will have to pull the heavy load alone. But when you are stride for stride with Jesus, yoked together with Him, your burden is light and easy to be bear.
I am yoked together with Jesus and His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
