“If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.”
If we say that we are having fellowship with Jesus and yet we are walking about conducting ourselves in ways that are not fitting His likeness, then we are still in darkness in those areas. If we say, in our darkness, that nothing is wrong and our behavior is Christ like and as good as anybody elses, we are lying and are not doing the truth.
The Message Bible says: “If we claim that we experience a shared life with him and continue to stumble around in the dark, we’re obviously lying through our teeth—we’re not living what we claim.”
As Christians, Christ-like ones, we are expected to walk in fullness of obedience to our knowledge and to the light we have, or else we are lying both in our words and in our actions. Think of it this way: can you really fellowship with someone you don’t hang around and do things with? I don’t think so.
I’m in fellowship with Jesus today. I don’t walk in darkness but I walk with Him.
