God Bears Witness

by Tim Davidson | A Verse A Day

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.”

(Rom. 8:16)

God’s Spirit will testify with our spirit that we are children of God. Another way to say this is that God’s Spirit makes us sure that we are His children. God’s Spirit joins Himself to our spirit and when He does He boldly declares that we are His children. The Spirit within us confirms that we have received His offer to be adopted into His family.

The Message Bible says: “God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who He is, and we know who we are: Father and children.”

To bear witness means to testify jointly. It’s not just you saying it but God is also saying that you are His child. When God’s Spirit speaks to us that we are His children, our whole viewpoint in life changes from that day onward. We are authorized by the Word of God to boldly declare our relationship with God and He will confirm it by His Spirit.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

Today the Spirit of God Himself bears witness, along with my own spirit, to the fact that I am a child of God.
