Head Faith vs. Heart Faith

by Mark Brazee | 365 Days of Healing, Devotions

“Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me” (Acts 27:25).

How can we know if we’re really in heart faith and not just head faith, or mental assent? That’s an important question. We have to learn how to locate ourselves in our faith. If we can do that, we can make the necessary adjustments to receive from God.

Head faith says, “I believe the Word—but look at the size of that problem!” Or it says, “I believe by Jesus’ stripes I was healed—but I feel so sick! And let me tell you what the doctors told me….”

Head faith is really “billygoat” faith—it likes to “but.” “I believe the Bible, but….” And, of course, your loved ones will help you with some of their own “buts”—”Now, I know you’re believing for your healing, but how do you really feel?”

On the other hand, heart faith says, “Yes, I see the problem. I see the symptoms of sickness. But I’m looking to the Bible! I found my answer there!”

Heart faith fixes its attention on the Word. Heart faith always finishes with this statement: “I believe God. I don’t care what it looks like.”

Faith doesn’t deny the symptoms or the circumstances. It doesn’t bury its head in the sand and hope the problem will go away. Faith faces the problem and says, “I know it looks bad, but I have inside information! I’m coming through this as an overcomer in Jesus Christ!”

During a storm when the apostle Paul was in a boat that was about to sink, he said, “I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me” (Acts 27:25). That’s what we have to do, as well. Sure, the storms will come. We don’t deny the wind, the waves, the symptoms. But we have something better, something bigger, something higher to believe.

We have the Word of God!

Confession:
God’s Spirit-breathed words are greater than any symptom
or circumstance. The Word says I’m healed, and
I believe it: I am healed, just as He has told me!
