Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. (Eph. 6:2-3)
One key to wellness is to treat our parents with honor. When God gave this “first commandment with promise,” he was talking to adults; this applies to all children, not just younger ones.
Although we as adults do not have to obey our parents any more, we are clearly instructed to honor them. This means that we care for them to the best of our ability when they are in their later years. If they are wrong about something, we are to approach them with respect and express our concern. If they have failed us, we are to reverence their position.
