“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine” (Prov. 3:9-10 KJV).

Giving is a way of honoring the Lord. When you give, God is going to make sure that it is given back unto you. But He is going to make sure that He out gives you so much so that you have an abundant overflow of blessing in your life.

Notice very simply that giving unto God of your substance and giving unto God of your first fruits – your tithes, ten percent of all your increase – is a matter of honoring God. When you decide to give your offering in church, or give someone a love gift, you are actually in the act of honoring God.

We know how to honor people. There have been a many ceremonies that we have even been a part of in which an individual is honored. For example that is what a graduation, ceremony is in some way.

You have an individual that has gone threw an extensive program. They’ve worked hard for several years, and it is time now to graduate. Then we have a graduation ceremony where we call forth their name and we tell the people what they have accomplished.

Maybe they are the valedictorian or the salutatorian. Maybe they had a certain high grade point average. And then we honor the individual. They receive their diploma; everyone stands up and claps their hands. The family yells and screams and acts crazy. Why? We are happy for what they have done, and we honor them.

We have guest speakers at our ministry that bless our lives. Because of the teaching they brought, our lives are never the same. So we like to stand up in front of the congregation and honor them by letting them know how much we appreciate them. The congregation stands up and we all applaud them. Sometimes we give a gift unto that individual, not because they may like that gift, but because we want to honor them.

In the same way, when you bring your tithes and offerings to God, you are honoring Him. You are showing Him that you believe He deserves respect. You are demonstrating that you appreciate what He has done in your life. Also, you are displaying your understanding that there is nothing you could have done on your own to have the blessings that you have in your life. That is honoring God.

So, we must honor Him in our life by giving. When we give we honor and glorify God.
