We must understand the difference between the curse and the blessing.

To rightly divide the Word of God we must separate the works of God from the works of the devil. When we attribute the work of the devil to God and we attribute the work of God to the devil, it creates confusion in our soul and the result is a wrong decision and destruction.

Deuteronomy 28 describes the blessings and the cursings that are a result of obedience or disobedience to God’s law. The blessings of the law are life, health and abundance. The curse of the law is death, disease and poverty.

When I turned 16, my father took me to the bank to help me finance my first car. I had a job at the time and I could have easily saved the money and paid for the car. However, my father wanted me to establish good credit and the only way to do that was to borrow money from the bank to pay for the car. If I would have saved and paid for the car, I would have had no payments and the car would have been mine. But instead, the bank owned the car and I owed them payments for three years. Unknowingly, my father was teaching me to live under the curse.

Borrowing money is not a sin, but it is a curse. It is not God’s best. God’s plan is for us to be the lender and not the borrower.

Recently a young couple told me of the great blessing that they had received from God. They had received a credit card in the mail with a $5,000 limit. They were rejoicing at the blessing. Deep inside my heart was sad for them because they were perceiving debt and usury as a blessing when God says it’s a curse.

Deuteronomy 28:12-13 tells us that the blessing of God is for us to be the head and not the tail and that we will lend but we “shall not borrow.”

Deuteronomy 28:43-44 tells us that the curse of the law is that we will be borrowers and instead of being the head, we would be the tail.

Here the curse of the law is clearly defined. When we are the borrower, we are the tail. When we are the lender, we are the head. Being the head is definitely better.

We must not be deceived. We must know the truth. As Christians we have been delivered from the curse of the law and it’s time for us to start walking in our deliverance.
