"Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity" (2 Tim. 2:19 KJV).

In today's society, we are bombarded with the world's values and ideas about how we should live our lives. Their strategy is to get us to think, live, and act as they do. However, God's Word tells us to build our lives on a sure foundation. Building a strong and sure foundation on God's Word is paramount to our success as Christians.

The word "sure" means secure, safe, trustworthy, true, certain, and confident. Webster's Dictionary defines foundation as the basis or ground upon which something stands or is supported. The foundation should cover every area of our lives. The first book of Psalm 11:3 reads, "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?"

You see, some people build their lives on foundations that are not sure. Then they can't do anything when it crumbles and falls. But when you build your foundation on that which is sure, the Word of God, you know what to do when crisis strikes.

God's foundation stands sure. First, we must understand that God lays the foundation. Second, the foundation is Christ, and that foundation is to be built upon by His saints with the Word of God. Problems arise when we take the foundation God has given us and use it to build upon worldly things. It's not going to work. The Word of God is the only thing that is going to allow us to build on a sure foundation.

When crisis strikes, we are to run to the Rock, not to the world. Webster's Dictionary defines rock as a firm support, basis, and refuge. Well, doesn't that sound something like a foundation? We need to know how to have that firm support and refuge.

Stop running to the world and trying to do things their way; when it doesn't work, you want to run to the Rock. It is much simpler to run to the Rock first, and then we wouldn't have to experience all the tragedies and disappointments in life.

The Word of God tells us that if we go to the Rock first, He will lead and guide us to safety. Jesus is our rock, and He is our sure foundation. When we trust Him at all times, then instead of tragedy, we are sure to experience triumph.
