Jesus said, "If you abide in me and My Words abide in you, you can ask what you will and it will be done for you." That sounds like a good thing, doesn't it? Wouldn't it be nice to always receive those things you ask for from God?

Well, we can if we get in Christ and His Word.

Since it is impossible for God to lie, we know that what Jesus said here must be true. So if we want to be able to "ask what you will and it will be done for you," we need to see what it means to "abide in Christ and have his Word abiding in us."

So what does it mean to abide? It means to continually live in. It is a present tense thing—this means you are continually living in Christ by faith. Believing or faith in Christ is not a one time thing—it is a continual walk. Today is the day of deliverance. If you will believe today.

Faith is not something you have done or will do. Faith is now! The just or righteous folks shall continually live by faith.

So if we continually walk in and live in Christ by faith and His Word is continually living in us we can ask what we will and it will be done for us. Why? Because God's Word is God's will. You see, if God's Word is living in us and we are walking in Christ, we will only be asking those things that are pleasing to the Father.

We will not be asking things that are amiss because we are living by faith in Christ. His Word is alive and active and powerful in us. It is accomplishing the thing God sent it to do in our lives as we actively take possession of it and receive it by faith.

Now I want to discuss the word "ask" here. This word "ask" doesn't mean "God will you please do this for me?" Everywhere in the New Testament this word "ask" is used it is always in connection with receiving from God. It is the kind of asking that always receives. This word "ask" means to require that you receive it by faith.

When God has already freely given something to us through His Word, we don't need to know if we can have it. We just need to take it by faith. The asking here is more like saying to God "Lord, you said it's mine and I'm taking it now. Thank you Jesus. Thank you Lord!"

When I go to the bank to make a withdrawal, I don't worry if the bank teller is going to say yes or no to my request. I don't think "I hope she gives me the money when I make the withdrawal." I go right up to that teller and say I'm taking $1000 from my account.

As long as I know the money is in the account, I'm not leaving that bank without my money. Why? Because it's my money. It's in my account and I have every right to take it out. That's the way it is when we ask and receive from God by faith.

We know by all the great and precious promises from God's Word what belongs to us. When we have a need, we can come boldly to the throne of grace and receive anything we need. It's in our account. It belongs to us because we are in Christ.

So next time you need something from God, don't leave without receiving it by faith!
