“...O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.” (Ps. 63:1 NKJV)
Years ago I heard Pastor Bill Hybels say, “faith leaks.” At first I didn’t understand it, but now after many years of life and ministry I can see exactly what he meant. He meant that unless you and I actively keep our faith fresh and growing - it does indeed leak.

If I was God I would have installed a faith meter on every one of our foreheads. That sure would have made pastoring easier. Just a quick check of the meter on the usher, that person greeting at the door, or the one on the platform singing a special would tell it all. Are you full or empty, are you growing, or in the midst of serving the Lord have you let your faith leak?

A meter like that might actually be good for us pastors to wear too. That way we’d all know if the member of the congregation or even the pastor was just going through the motions or if their relationship with God was real, vital and growing. Our goal is to walk this life of faith, not just talk it. Can I get a witness?

Just like plants need food and water to grow, so do we. Jesus said it this way,
...It is written, man shall live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
(Matt. 4:4)
We need a regular diet of God’s word in our lives. There are so many things fighting for the hard drive space of our brain and our hearts. We’re living in the age of technology, constantly dealing with a daily tsunami of information. Unfortunately, most of that information tends to distract us from God -  not draw us near to Him... not that hearing you rant on Facebook about the driver who cut you off today or seeing one more of your selfies isn’t important. But neither of those facts help us to keep Jesus at the center of our lives. We need spiritual food and spiritual water much more than we need to update our Twitter feed. Jesus said,
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.
(John 7:37-38)
So, let’s set apart some time to maintain our spiritual well being. Spend some time reading your Bible; devote some time to pray, in english and in the Spirit, and do whatever it takes to get to church this weekend. And whatever you do, don’t let your faith leak.

Prayer: Father, I’m choosing to seek You before anything else in my life. I never want my faith in You to leak. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
