"Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool" (Isa. 1:18).

Did you every get called to the principal's office as a child for doing something wrong? I did. I remember that I was petrified with fear. When I went in I had to explain what I did and then give my justification for it.

It didn't go over well. I got in trouble. It felt like my principal was out to get me!

When most people read the above verse from the book of Isaiah, they visualize it as needing to sit down with the Lord and justify themselves. The contrary is true.

In this verse, He is the one who called out to us to sit down and reason together. He is the one reminding us of a benefit He has established for us.

Think about that for a minute. That would be like me walking into the principle's office and instead of her being mad, she'd sit me down to tell me why she wanted to put my offense aside and let me know I was a good boy. That would have been a shock and a delight.

Imagine the Lord's conversation as something like this.
Come on, we have to sit down and talk. I want to remind you of this blessing that I established for you when I made a covenant with you.

Yes, I know you blew it. Yes, I know you let me down and sinned against me, but the fact is, I love you very much and I don't want you to run from me anymore. I want you to run to me. I want you to seek me. I want you to understand just how much I love you.

I want you to know that I will help you with this sin thing. I hate sin and don't want you in it, but I am willing to help you. I have put my Holy Spirit within you and He is your strength to help you overcome these times of temptation to sin.
"How does that work" you ask?
I'll remind you of my Word and then as you lean on me I'll give you supernatural strength as you put your faith in the promise of my help. Now, you may be wondering about your sins from when you "blew it." I know they stand out like red against snow, but I have promised to forgive you when you sincerely ask and are working to change.

True repentance turns them to white like wool! In other words, they will be forgiven and history. Don't you bring them up again because I am not going to remember them. This is part of the covenant I have made with you. I know this covenant inside and out because I established it. I want you to learn it so that you will quit running from me and let me into your life. Then you will come and sit with me often and we can reason together.

Let me help you. Let me change you into the person I created you to be at birth. Let me work in and on your heart and transform your life so you can be free from the mess that Satan causes in someone's life. Come and learn of me and I will turn your life around and make everything brand new. I'll work from inside of you. I'll teach you how to think like me, talk like me, love like me, be strong like me. I'll give you wisdom and help you as you ask me.

Then things will work and eventually you'll have enough hindsight to see where you were and where I brought you! It will be awesome and you will be able to spend all eternity basking in my love and blessing. It's up to you, but make the right choice. You've already tasted Satan's destruction in your life!
The Lord then closes His conversation with this verse that follows today's featured verse. He says,
If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land.
(Isa. 1:19 NIV)
What is always the bottom line with the Lord? He wants to cleanse us and bless us and help us represent Him in the earth! It is the heart of a Father that takes this kind of a position - not a warden or dictator.

God is your Father and Jesus proved His love by accepting you into the family of God. Run to Him - again and again and again. Blessing you is His heart!

"He has removed our sins as far away from us as the east is from the west. He is like a father to us, tender and sympathetic to those who reverence him" (Ps. 103:12-13 TLB).
