The inward man has a "voice" which we call the conscience, intuition, inner guidance, or inward witness. As a born-again believer trains and develops his spirit, this voice will become clearer.

His spirit will become a surer and surer guide. One thing that has held back the Christian world as a whole is that we are more physical-conscious (body-conscious) and more mental-conscious (soul-conscious). We have developed the body and soul, but we have left the spirit of man almost untouched.

Your spirit can be educated just as your mind can be educated. Your spirit can be built up in strength and trained just as your body can be built and trained.

Of course, a person who has never been born again could not follow the voice of his spirit. His spirit would be unregenerate. His conscience would permit him to do just about anything. But when you have the nature and life of God in you, your conscience won't permit you to do just anything.

If you are a born-again Christian, the Holy Spirit is living and abiding in your spirit. He does not communicate directly with your mind, because He is not in your mind; He is in your spirit. He communicates with you through your spirit.

Jesus said, "...we [His Father and He] will come unto him, and make our abode with him" (John 14:23).

Paul said, "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" (1 Cor. 3:16).

Again, writing to the Corinthians in the second letter, he said, "...ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people" (2 Cor. 6:16).

If God is dwelling in us, then that is where He is going to speak to us.
