When my daughter, Jodi, was five years old, she would pretend that she was the "Bionic Woman," a popular female action hero of that day. This character could do everything faster than our eyes could see, so the camera had to film her in slow motion in order for us to see her super-human abilities.
Jodi and her little friend, Tracy (who pretended to be the "Six Million Dollar Man," who also was super-human) would run through the playground in slow motion doing damage to invisible bad guys. With each confidently placed step, they pictured themselves as being powerfully strong, indestructible and very dangerous to the enemy.
As a child, you may have imagined something similar, but did you know that you really are super-human? It's the truth! Jesus Christ has made it possible for every born-again believer to be anointed with the power of the Holy Ghost to destroy the works of the devil and be victorious in every area of life. You are not limited to the natural. You are supernatural! When you walk with God, you are powerfully strong, indestructible and very dangerous to the enemy.
You may not look dangerous or feel dangerous, but dwelling on the inside of you is the power that raised Jesus from the dead. You are clothed with the armor of God, and you are extremely hazardous to the plans of the devil. God did not save your soul to leave you a weakling, subject to all the powers of darkness. The Spirit of God has been given to you to make you an over-comer with dominion over every demonic force that ever was. The devil knows it and it's high time that the church knew it!
You Have an Equalizer
In the eyes of the devil, every Christian is dangerous. The word "dangerous," as defined by Webster's Dictionary, means "able or likely to inflict injury or harm." The devil's worst nightmare is full of born-again believers who skillfully use the Word of God to quench his fiery darts and silence his lying tongue forever.
When we are surrounded by the enemy, we don''t have to rely on our own natural strength. In Ephesians 6:10-18, we learn that we draw our strength from God by putting on the whole armor of God. We have the breastplate of righteousness and our feet are shod with the preparation of the Gospel. We have the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God! We are not alone, we have an Equalizer!
When I began dating Jesse, I had a stepfather who was extremely violent. In the three years that my Mom was married to Johnny, he seemed to always be drinking, drunk or passed out on the couch. Passed out was good. When he was that way, I didn't have to deal with his insults or see him hit on my Mom. He never did hit on us kids, but Mom was a frequent target. Jesse had often taken my sisters and I out of the house when the rampages began. He would buy us burgers and malts to help calm our fears and cheer us up. All of us knew how crazy Johnny could be.
I'll never forget the time that I called Jesse on the phone to help me stop Johnny from hurting my mom. He lived about five miles away and promised to be right over, but as he was going out the door, he told his parents what was going on at my house. Mr. Duplantis wasn't taking chances with his son's life and quickly handed Jesse a knife from the kitchen, "just in case." He had an equalizer! Jesse raced over to my house in his old blue bomb of a car to protect "his girl." Although he never used the knife, he was ready to do all that was necessary to put a stop to Johnny that day.
After things had calmed down, Jesse and his big brother, Wayne (another equalizer), met Johnny at a bar to talk to him privately and settle this thing for good. But before Jesse and Wayne could whip up on him, Johnny began to apologize to Jesse and promised to straighten up. Things went smooth for quite a long time around our house from that moment on. It was made crystal clear to Johnny that if he got violent with me or my family, Jesse would find him and mess him up real good. Jesse had made him an offer he couldn't refuse!
None of us knew the Lord in those days, but today I know how to use the Name of Jesus and stop the devil in his tracks. I like what Paul said in Philippians 4:13, "I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me". I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency; I have an Equalizer!
Can't Lose With the Stuff We Use!
All the heroes of the faith in Hebrews 11 were anointed to move in the realm of the miraculous and were greatly feared by their enemies, "Who by the help faith subdued kingdoms, administered justice, closed the mouth of lions, extinguished the power of raging fire, escaped the devourings of the sword, out of frailty and weakness won strength and became stalwart even mighty and resistless in battle, routing alien hosts" (Heb. 11:33-34). They couldn't lose with the stuff they used. Since we have the same power available to us today, you might ask what are the qualities that can enable us to be dangerous rather than harmless?
Four key things must be at work before you can be dangerous to the enemy: First, you must be devoted to prayer; second, you must be diligent to study God's Word; third, you must be dedicated to doing God's will; and finally, you must be determined to receive the promise.
Devoted to Prayer
Prayer is always step one and essential to your victory. Now, I am not talking about a haphazard prayer life that occasionally reminds God about your problems. I'm talking about constant communication with God so that the Holy Spirit is able to reveal the plans of the enemy and show you how to neutralize his forces and send him running for cover.
When we are devoted to prayer and keep our time with God at the center of our life, we will walk in boldness instead of tip-toeing around the devil. Prayer is an indispensable part of your armor and makes you an active participant in spiritual warfare. Don't just start in prayer. Stay devoted to prayer! Regardless of what things look like in the natural, never give up on it. Too often, we get weary and faint before we are able to reap what we have sown. After teaching His disciples how to pray, Jesus commanded the disciples, "So I say to you, Ask and keep on asking and it shall be given you; seek and keep on seeking and you shall find; knock and keep on knocking and the door shall be opened to you" (Luke 11:9). Don't just talk about it, do it!
Diligent to Study God's Word
Paul told Timothy, "Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing, rightly handling and skillfully teaching the Word of Truth" (2 Tim. 2:15). Unless we take the time to get into God's Word and allow it to transform our old way of thinking, we will live in constant defeat and frustration and miss out on God's plan for our lives. But when we are diligent to study the Word of God, we can become a confident, skillful workman that is extremely hazardous to the devil's plans.
Dedicated to Doing the Will of God
The first scripture that I memorized after I was born again was Romans 12:1-2, which says, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to the world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God." From the very beginning of my walk with the Lord, He let me know the importance of being at the center of His will. It didn't matter how difficult it looked or how inadequate I thought I was. All that mattered was staying in the center of God's will. Jesus was that way. He said that He only did what the Father told Him to do and said only what the Father told Him to say. He never moved ahead of God or lagged behind. He was always in step with the plan of God and always took time to be alone with Him for up-to-the-minute instructions.
Determined to Receive the Promise
Determination always wins out. If you are devoted to prayer, determined to study God's Word and dedicated to God's will, you will receive all that God has promised you.
Hebrews 2:14-15 says, "Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil; And might deliver those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives." Although Jesus has defeated and rendered the devil powerless, it is our responsibility to believe it by faith and act on it in order to receive God's promise.
Don't allow the devil to neutralize you with doubt, fear and ignorance of God's Word. You are a dangerous disciple. The devil knows it, and now you know it too!
