Retire, or "refire"? That's the question I want to ask you today. God is doing a purifying in the body of Christ today, in preparation for the biggest outpouring of the Holy Spirit there has ever been. I am being put to the test right now like never before.

And I have a feeling that I'm not the only one, either. Never have I seen so many men and women of God being hit with so many trials and problems as I am seeing right now.

Why is this? Satan knows the end is very near and his time is short. So he is turning up the heat on God's people, trying to get them to back off and quit serving Jesus. The devil figures that if he can cause you enough problems, you will walk away from Jesus just to get him off your back.

Just like on a job you've been on for a long time, looking forward to your retirement, many times an employer will try to get an older person discouraged so he or she will quit. Why? So they won't stay to the full retirement age and draw their benefits. The company saves a bundle by doing that.

And the devil is trying to use that same technique on God's people, to get them to quit before they can get their "retirement benefits," namely the crown of life. The devil wants you to "retire" early...without the benefits.

When I look at the word "retire," I see two words, "re" and "tire," in other words, to be tired, repeatedly. And then I see the scheme of the devil, he tries to wear down Christians, to make them continually weary, so they will give up and quit and lose their reward.

But the Bible says in Galatians 6:9, "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." So when shall we reap? In due season, when God says it's time...if we faint not!

Again, when I look at the word "retire." I also see the same two words, "re" and "tire," but with a whole new meaning, in other words, to put new tires on, to mount up preparing for yet another journey.

God isn't done with you yet. You still have a ways to go, so rather than go through the rest of your life on "bald tires," go for a new set! Those old bald "may-pop" tires won't get you where you want to go anymore. They're all used up.

It's going to take something you may never have had before to go the distance. Let's call it "Refire." That means, renewing the fire you once had for the Lord. Jesus told the church of Ephesus in Revelation 2:2-5,
I know thy works, and thy labor, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou has tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and has found them liars: and has borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake has labored, and hast not fainted.

NEVERTHELESS, I have somewhat against thee, BECAUSE THOU HAST LEFT THY FIRST LOVE. REMEMBER FROM WHENCE THOU ART FALLEN, AND REPENT, AND DO THE FIRST WORKS:

or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
(Rev. 2:2-5)
To me, this looks like pretty serious business, having Jesus tell you that unless you get back that first love, you are lost.

Have you ever noticed a newly wedded couple? They can't seem to get enough of each other, and they can't stand to be apart. But look at many married couples after about twenty years. He sits on one side of the car up against the door, and she sits up against the other door. Who moved? They don't hold hands anymore. They don't look at each other with love in their eyes anymore. What happened? They've lost their first love.

What's the answer? To get "REFIRED." In a marriage, you can "refire" it by courting your mate again, like when you were first dating. That may sound silly, but yes, you can get back that first love, if you want it enough.

And your walk with Jesus can be back like it was at first, fresh, vital, and ALIVE! Remember how wonderful you felt when you were first saved? Would you like to feel like that again? How? Get back into the Bible, you know, it's that dusty book over there on the shelf.

Yeah, that's the one, pick It up and study It again. Pray. Spend time with Jesus. Talk to Him like you would talk to someone you love. And listen. By all means, LISTEN! And go to Church.

Do the things you did when you first got saved. Stir up those old cold embers and let the Holy Spirit breathe new fire into them. You'll find out it's better to be "refired" than "retired."

Ask God to breathe new life into you so you can go the distance. The race is not over yet. This is no time to retire! It's time to refire!
