Heb. 5:14 says, "Solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil." One of the signs that a baby is starting to grow up is that he can have solid foods. One of the signs of maturity in the Lord is your response to the meat.

How do you respond when someone gives you a piece of solid food?

When you hear a sermon or someone confronts you about something in your life, like having a real subtle attitude or not treating people with love or respect, how do you respond?

Some people get away with those things all the time, but not you. Because you want solid food you're not dealing with big immorality kinds of sins, like murder or getting drunk all the time.

You have a piece of meat that's talking about your envious heart. Instead of getting defensive you say, "Wait a minute, I want to be mature about this. I want to take that piece of solid food and apply it to my life, I want to deal with this area of my life."

Solid food is for the mature. One of the signs of maturity is really wanting to eat solid food. The mature will deal with any area of their life, even if others are not having to deal with it.

You may not hear sermons on these issues all the time, but you may read something in the Scripture or hear somebody saying something in a sermon or in a conversation with you.

Instead of getting defensive, take that solid food and chew on it, and chew on it, and chew on it until you digest it and get it into your heart and into your life.

Now take three minutes to memorize and meditate on Heb. 5:14. Get it so deep in your heart that the next time you hear a sermon you will recognize the meat in it and be able to apply that meat to your life.
