Can we have church in any type of structure, or must it be an official church building (sanctuary)?

It's wonderful for a church to be able to meet in a stately sanctuary. However, it may take time for a church family to build a structure. God doesn't care where a church holds its services.

It can be in the outdoors, a warehouse, a store front, etc. What matters to God is whether or not the people are worshiping Him out of their hearts. Jesus spoke to a woman in the Bible who was proud that her ancestors worshiped God in a certain place.

He let her know that it's not the location that makes a difference to God, but the attitude of the worshiper.
"Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship." Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.

"You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
(John 4:20-24)
God is looking for those who will worship Him out of their hearts. He is not concerned with the location. It is good to strive for excellence and have the best facilities that you possibly can have as a church, yet that's not the most important issue.
