Can God influence government leaders?

Yes! Throughout history God has caused government leaders to perform His will. There are many examples in the Bible that prove this point. God has the ability to influence any man or woman to perform His will (Prov. 21:1).

Let's take a look at how God caused two government leaders to have Jesus crucified. Remember, this is an event that was prophesied by Isaiah, the prophet, more than 600 years before the birth of Christ (Isa. 53:1-12). It was the will of God!
"Do you refuse to speak to me?" Pilate said. "Don't you realize I have the power either to free you or to crucify you?"

Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."
(John 19:10-11 NIV)
God placed Pilate in the position he held, giving him power to set Jesus free or crucify him. Notice what another section of scripture says regarding the decision he made.
Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.
(Acts 4:27-28 NIV)
Herod and Pilate had Jesus crucified because God willed it beforehand. It wasn't their choice. They performed the will of God. We live in a time that's very strategic. God wants to perform His will through government leaders.

The greatest part that we can play in affecting our governmental leaders is through prayer (1 Tim. 2:1-8). Our prayers release God to perform His will (Matt. 6:9-10).
