I've been told by Christians that the words I speak can affect my life. Is this true?

Yes! Let's look at some Scripture.

"From the fruit of his mouth a man's stomach is filled; with the harvest from his lips he is satisfied" (Prov. 18:20).

We would all agree that food is supposed to go into the mouth and then fill the stomach. However, the first part of this Scripture is saying the exact opposite.

The fruit of your mouth is referring to the words you speak. The words you speak will end up filling your stomach, or they will affect your income. Thus, if you speak the right thing your stomach will be filled with food.

Notice what else is said. Your lips produce a harvest that can satisfy you. The words you speak will cause good things to come into your life and thus bring you satisfaction.

Notice the next verse of Scripture: "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit" (Prov. 18:21).

A man's tongue can produce life or death for him. It's important for us to watch what we say. We must make sure we find out what God has said (through the Bible) and begin to say the same things He says.

There are many other Scriptures that declare our words are important and affect our lives.
