Why don't angels protect all Christians? It seems like the Bible says they are here to protect us.

Let's look at two sections of Scripture that give us the answer to your question. The first section is from the Old Testament, and the second is from the New Testament.
The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them…. Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. Who is the man who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry.
(Ps. 34:7, 11-15 NKJV)
Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

For "He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking guile. Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil.
(1 Peter 3:8-12 NKJV)
Angels will only protect the Christian who fears God, avoids sin, and loves his brothers and sisters in the Lord.

In order to have angelic protection, we must walk in love and live holy lives. This doesn't mean that we will not encounter trouble, but it states that we shall be delivered from it.
