I want you to picture a boulder. This boulder is smooth and flat on top except for a deep indentation in the middle of it, due to a steady drip of water coming from above the boulder. The hollowed out place did not happen overnight. It took many years of slowly dripping water.

Life is like that.

Fear sometimes comes from life's circumstances as the result of choices we have made in our lives, and like a steady drip, it makes an impression and in time, we become helpless.

It is not a conscious thing, but rather, it is something that slowly takes place in our lives, and goes unnoticed. You then hear the Word and believe the Word but wonder why it isn't working.

Helplessness has a debilitating effect on human problem solving, consequently the learning ability is hampered and the responses from which you can choose are narrowed.

Fear Can Paralyze You
Let's say that you have had a life of money problems. You tend to be up and down but never stay where a Blood-bought child of God, who knows their rights, should be. This kind of fear not only causes you to be helpless but, in a sense, it paralyzes you.

It doesn't appear as stark raving terror, but rather becomes a slow training throughout the circumstances of your lifetime.

The word paralyze means, to dull, numb, stun, confine, cripple, maim, disarm and incapacitate. Fear causes your mind, emotions, and will to be numb, thus paralyzing you.

I had an area of my life that needed adjustments. I knew my rights as well as the Father's word, will, and heart on the subject, however, things seemed that they just were not working. I seemed peaceful enough about the situation but I knew that something was wrong. I also knew that it wasn't God, people, or devils.

I knew the Word said that no weapon formed against me shall prosper. I also knew that there were not enough devils in hell and on earth to stop the Word from working.

That only left one thing—Me. I began to pray and the Lord showed me that through fear, and my southern culture, mixed with life's circumstances, I had become helpless (numb, disarmed). It was so much a part of me that I couldn't see it and wasn't even aware of the problem.

Identifying The Numbness
As I went to the Word and the Father, He began to show me how I wasn't responding with faith but in reality was numb in this area of my life. Well, I can promise you I repented, because what is not of faith is sin. His Spirit and Word began to wash over me and heal me. Glory to God!

Where fear (that didn't appear as fear) once ruled my life and brought devastation, now, no longer rules. Oh! What true peace that brings. Numbness and passivity no longer exist, but rather the active life and peace that faith and freedom bring are working in my life.

Hebrews 13: 5b says,
For HE [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you) [Assuredly not!]
Feeling helpless and responding to life's circumstances in helplessness is not God. He said He would not leave you helpless. Isaiah 60:1 tells us to
Arise [from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you—rise to a new life]! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!
No matter how bad it looks I can promise you that "God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us" (Eph. 3:20).

Let's have the power of faith and love working in us so that our exceeding and abundant God can do just what He desires. Think about it, above all that we ask or think!
