…the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
(Romans 5:5 NKJV)
Need love? Looking for love? Can't help falling in love? Crazy in love? Can't make 'em love you? Need the power of love? Want to know what love is?

God has poured His love in us. He put it there. He poured it out and in. The unconditional love of God has already been poured out into our hearts. We don't have to ask, search or beg for His love. It's already within us—we just need to tap into it! We need to release it. We need to access it.

I remember after each of our kids was born, I had this overwhelming feeling of love—I called it the "love for humanity" hormone. Instantly, I loved my doctor and nurses. I loved the hospital staff. I loved my enemies. Of course, I loved my husband, family and the new baby! I loved everyone! The love I felt was so overwhelming. I am sure that part of the "love wave" I felt was chemical—those nurturing, postpartum hormones went into action. I loved it! It was so powerful; I wanted to figure out how to bottle it. I wanted to put it into caplets. I wanted to capture and save that feeling of nurture, protection and love!

Thankfully, we don't have to bottle, freeze-dry or capture it because God has already freely poured His love out in us! We already have this love—and beyond—inside of us. Our great joy, challenge and hope is learning how to yield to it on a daily basis.

For the past little while, I have found a fresh experience of God's love front and center in my heart. Sometimes, I am overcome with the overwhelming intensity of His love. I am not exactly sure what happened recently that has allowed me to experience God's love so tangibly. Perhaps it's just a sovereign God-thing. Maybe it's a restorative answer to my prayers. It may be all of the above; I don't know for sure…but lately, I have found His love filling my heart in a fresh, powerful way. Experiencing God's love is unlike anything the earth offers. I agree with the songwriter who wrote, "Amazing love, how can it be?" It's so wonderful; I don't want to do anything to mess it up!

Of course, as Christians, we know as a truth that God loves us. We know that we are to love others—whether we "feel" loving or not. We know we are to walk in love and we are to love our enemies. We choose love. It's what Christians do. However, it's a lot more fun to "feel" this deep, deep love of Jesus, to be filled with it to the point of overflowing and to extend it to others. I am praying for more insight on how to keep this river going and how to access the tangibility of it more frequently.

In the event you are hungry for the tangible experience of His love, here's what I do know about tapping into God's love…

Get In His Presence: The Lord can do more in one millisecond of us being in His Presence than we can do through all of our might and effort. In His Presence we find joy and the pleasures of His love. "You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand." (Ps. 16:11, NIV)

Pray To Experience It: There is a great prayer in Ephesians 3 on experiencing God's love. Pray this for yourself and others:
May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love, that you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God's devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it]; [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!
(Eph. 3:17-19 AMP)
Follow Love & Tell People: Go ahead and tell people! Rather than keeping God's love locked up inside of us—why not let the love river flow in, out and through us? Have you told those around you that you love them lately? It's amazing what a few words can mean—"I love you," "Love ya," "Love you," "Love you dearly," "Love to you," "All my love," "With His great love," "You are loved"—whatever comes from your heart. So, go ahead—follow love and tell the peeps! "...This is the commandment, as you have heard from the beginning, that you continue to walk in love [guided by it and following it]." (2 John 6, AMP)

So, Dear Reader: You are loved. I love you! More importantly, God loves you! Today, I pray you may really come to know His love practically, through experience for yourself.

Say It:
Father, thank You for pouring out Your love in my heart. I want to tap into that love so that I may experience it in a more tangible way and so that I may share Your love with those in my world. Today, I pray that I would be rooted deeply in love and founded securely on love, that I would be strong to apprehend and grasp, with all Your people, the experience of that love. I pray I experience the breadth and length and height and depth of it. I want to know practically, through experience for myself, the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge without experience. Today, I will not keep it a secret any longer—I'll start telling people I love them with the love You've put inside of me and I'll look for ways to show them Your love. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
