With wisdom come the benefits of long life, riches and honor (Prov. 3:15-16). These are definitely things that we'd all like for ourselves and our children.

Now that we know we want wisdom, we need to find out what it looks like.

What Does a Wise Person Do?
1. Like Jesus did, they GROW in wisdom.
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
(Luke 2:52 NKJV)

2. A wise person is a DOER of the Word.
"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
(Matt. 7:24 NIV )

3. A wise person has a VISION for their life.
Where there is no vision, the people perish:
(Prov. 29:18 KJV)

4. A wise person FEARS God.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 1:7 KJV

(For more information on the "fear of the Lord" see Psalm 33:8, Proverbs 8:13, Dueteronomy 17:19)

5. A wise person WALKS with wise friends.
Whoever walks with the wise will become wise; whoever walks with fools will suffer harm.
(Prov. 13:20 NLT)

6. A wise person BRINGS about healing with their words.
Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.
(Prov. 12:18 NLT)

7. A wise person HAS self-control.
A fool gives full vent to anger, but a wise person quietly holds it back.
(Prov. 29:11 NLT)

8. A wise person LISTENS to instruction.
A wise child accepts a parent's discipline; a young mocker refuses to listen.
(Prov. 13:1 NKJV)

The 30 Second Take Away
The Word tells us to make getting wisdom our #1 priority (Prov. 4:7). If this is our main goal, we need to know what the end result looks like and keep that in front of us as we work to achieve it.

ACTION STEP:
Look up Scriptures about wisdom. Start putting together the picture of what a wise person does according to God's Word. (You can also do this with your children to give a great hands-on teaching about wisdom!)
