It is very important for us to stay positive in a negative world. It is our decision to stay positive. It is our decision to live in peace, not in frustration with the way things are going.

We make hundreds to thousands of decisions everyday. Such as, when to wake up what to wear, what to eat, what to work on and what to put off for another day, what to watch, read or listen to. We can’t get away from making choices.

The world around us may be negative – we may hear it daily – gas prices rising, economy getting worse – real estate sales down – food prices rising, which political candidate will become the next president and on and on it goes.

It is our personal choice how we live in this life. We can choose to see the good in things, the good in people, the good at our jobs. Why not chime in on a conversation and bring out some of the positive things in this world? You may just get some people thinking differently!

We create our own surroundings by our thoughts, our decisions and our actions. We attract the same kind of people that we tend to be. If you find yourself thinking about the negative things in life, then look around you. Who are your friends? Do they lift you up or bring you down? Do you tend to listen to the world news more than read the Bible?

We must make a positive decision to get out of the muck and mire most of the world is trapped in. We should always surround ourselves with positive uplifting music, books, movies and TV.

As the old saying goes - we are what we eat. We also act on the things that we think about.

How about feeding on the light instead of darkness, good instead of evil, joy instead of sorrow, peace instead of worry? If we are what we eat – what is our lifestyle diet consisting of?

Do we find ourselves far too often thinking of the lives of the people on some of the favorite soap operas or talk shows to see how their lives will turn out? Or do we read and listen to stories of overcommers – people whose true life stories can help lift us up and out of a humdrum, negative lifestyle?

It is our choice! Make a list of affirmations to confess daily, such as:
  • I’m a better person today than I was yesterday.
  • I am walking in fullness of health.
  • I keep a watch over my mouth and speak only things that are edifying.
  • I expect good things today – favor is chasing me down.
  • I have true joy and peace in my life.

We can’t control everything that happens in this world – but we surely can control how we respond to what happens and choose to live positively when the world around us is so negative.

Our prayers can change things in this world. In Matthew 6:9, Jesus is teaching the apostles to pray like He did. He said to honor and reverence the Father and pray that His Kingdom come and His will be done in this earth as it is in heaven.

We can change the world through our speaking, actions, and prayers. We don’t have to accept what the world is offering—we don’t have to live like the world is living. Our prayers can change situations. It is truly our decision to live and stay positive in this world—and by doing so we can be a positive influence in the world!
