icecreamtruckI’ve been asked many times, ”How do you keep up with reading the Bible every day?” Or, “How do you find the time? Isn’t it boring? Is God mad at me if I don’t?” And many other variations of those kinds of questions. So, let’s chat today about some practical tips that I think will encourage you when it comes to reading your Bible!

The basic truth is that we all have no problem doing the things we enjoy.

If someone were to tell you that every day you should eat a pint of ice cream, most of us wouldn’t have an issue with that! (Who’s with me?) That’s a simple example, but it’s so true. If it’s something that’s enjoyable, it becomes easy to do something regularly and frequently.

That is where many get stuck in regards to Bible reading. They don’t find the joy in it because they think reading their Bible is just something they have to do to “please” God or to check a box on an invisible checklist of being a “good” Christian.

But what if I told you that reading your Bible could be the most exciting part of your day? It can be! The Word is living and active (Heb. 4:12). As you read the Word, you get filled with peace, wisdom, love, guidance, healing, joy, reassurance, direction, correction, and encouragement! There’s nothing else like it. No Netflix binge, no social media scrolling, no hot cup of Starbucks can do all of that in your life.

Yes, it takes some effort getting started, but make the choice to do so! Be consistent and intentional about it. Ask God to speak to you through the pages, and turn up your expectation to hear from Him! Your craving for the living Word will grow and grow the more you read, and before you know it, your Bible reading time will not just be enjoyable, it’ll become something you value as absolutely essential in your daily life. You can do this, friends! Start today!

Say This: “Father, thank You for the living Word! I know that peace, joy, direction, correction, encouragement, and so much more are found in the Bible. Lord, today I choose to intentionally start reading the Word every day, and I ask you Lord to teach me, guide me, and help me to experience more of You. Stir up in me a craving for Your Word! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Go get those Bible basics, friend! You got this!
