Lose weight. Save money. Pay off debts. Spend more time in the Word. I don't know about you, but there have been some times in my life when I have set goals which I fully intended to accomplish, but the moment I began to pursue them, it was like running into a brick wall.

Have you ever had that experience? Have you ever had God tell you to do something, but when you set out to do it, it looked like all of hell's power broke loose? If so, then you are not alone. It's happened to all of us.

You know, some people think that once they sit down and write out their goals, that everything will just go smoothly. But most of the time, that's not the case. Satan can't afford for you to be successful. He will do everything he possibly can to stop you, but you must not give up.

You have to remind yourself that, ...greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world! (1 John 4:4) We should not be satisfied with failure.

Sometimes we put up with the devil and give in to his tactics knowing all the time that we have authority over him, but not doing anything about it. The only way that we can defeat him is to resist him steadfastly in the faith.

Sometimes we act like Pharaoh with all those frogs. He had them in his oven, in his dough, in his bedchamber. Everywhere Pharaoh turned, there were frogs. Everywhere! Big frogs, little frogs, green frogs, brown frogs, slimy frogs, ugly frogs. Finally, he called for Moses and said, "...Entreat the Lord, that he may take away the frogs..." (Ex. 8:8).

Moses said, "All right. When?"

Pharaoh answered, "Tomorrow."

Can you imagine that? He was actually saying, "I want to spend one more night with these frogs."

That's how we've been many times. We tolerate circumstances and put up with them when we don't have to. If we can get rid of the frogs, then let's get rid of them now! If we can get rid of Satan, then let's get rid of him now! Why put up with him for one more day?

If we are what the Bible says we are, then we ought to be winning. We should be succeeding. We should be accomplishing. We should be productive. If God tells us to do something, then we ought to be able to do it. We shouldn't compromise just because things aren't working out.

There have been times in the past when I have said, "I'm going to do this or that." I would say it with sincerity and fully intended to do it. However, the next thing I knew, because of pressure, I would just pass it off and hope nobody remembered that I had said I was going to do it. Have you ever done that?

Well, that's not good enough. We're more than conquerors, and we can do all things through Christ which strengthens us!

Success In Every Area
I have watched several great men of God, men for whom I have great respect and admiration, who simply will not accept failure. One of those men is Oral Roberts.

I've read about the great and mighty things that have been accomplished in his ministry. Often I've asked, "Lord, how do men like this seem to be able to accomplish so much?"

Many years ago, a well-meaning but misguided soul told me, "Why brother, don't you know? It's because his name is Oral Roberts."

I asked, "What does his name have to do with it?" She said, "Don't you know the spiritual meaning of the word 'oral'? It means 'the spoken word.'"

So I asked the Lord, Lord, do You mean to tell me that it's a person's name that puts them over? This just didn't seem right to me, but just in case, I decided to look up my name and see if there was any spiritual significance to it.

When I looked up the word Jerry, I found that it was defined as a slang name for a German. I thought, Now, God, that isn't fair! Why did You give Brother Roberts a name which means "the spoken word" and You gave me the slang name for a German?

A person's name doesn't guarantee them success. It really doesn't make any difference what your name is. The key to a successful life is not in a person's name, but what they do with God's Word and the Name of Jesus!

Another person told me the reason Brother Roberts was so successful was because he had been given "ultimate faith."

However, I couldn't find "ultimate faith" in the Bible. Romans 12:3 tells us that we have been given the measure of faith.

He didn't give Brother Roberts a large measure, and we got just a little dab.

God is no respecter of persons. God has dealt to every man the measure of faith. God revealed to me that the only difference between Oral Roberts and some other Christians is that Brother Roberts took the measure which was dealt to him (the very same measure which was dealt to you when you were born again) and increased it by using it.

Many people have never done anything with their measure of faith. It is lying dormant inside of them.

Romans 10:17 tells us that faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. If we stay in the Word, then our faith will grow and enable us to accomplish anything we desire to do.

Expect The Best
You know, I'm convinced that it's time for us to stop accepting defeat. We must be determined to do what God tells us to do, even if it looks like everything around us is falling apart when we set out to do it. We should not accept anything less than total success in every endeavor.

If we expect to accomplish great things in these last days, then we must maintain constant fellowship with God and His Word.

If you're not fellowshipping with Him and His Word, then Satan will defeat you. It's only through the Word that we can expect to triumph over every adversity and overcome every attack.

I'm convinced that in our generation God is raising up a people who will not settle for failure and defeat but will fight the good fight of faith and win every time.

So, set your goals higher this year than you did last year. Don't settle for mediocrity. God has a divine plan for your life, and He has equipped you with His ability to carry it out. Don't let anything keep you from fulfilling everything that God wants you to do.

Dr. Jerry Savelle was an average, blue-collar man who was struggling and needed God's help. While he considered himself a "nobody," when he became a believer God told him not to worry about it because He was a master at making champions out of nobodies. God has since taken Dr. Savelle from being a constant quitter to a man who knows how to stand on the Word of God until victory is experienced. Because of the life-changing combination of God's faithfulness and Dr. Savelle's "no quit" attitude, his life is totally different than it was thirty-eight years ago.
