You can have joy in WHATEVER YOU ARE FACING! How? John 16:24 says, "Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full."

Once you are born again, you obtain the fruit of the Spirit, one of which is joy, but if you do not stir up those forces within you - they will just lie dormant. It doesn't matter how long it has been since you experienced joy in your life, it's still there.

John 16:22 says, "And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you." No one can take your joy from you. It is always there, but you have to stir it up!

How do you stir it up? Psalms 16:11 says, "Thou will show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy." Spending time in fellowship with the Father brings joy! Just spending time praying, talking with the Lord, and reading and studying His Word produces joy on the inside of us. You can't help but feel the joy of the Lord rise up on the inside of you when you spend time in the Word.

When things aren't going well, joy is a strength you draw from to get you through this hard time. Nehemiah 8:10 says, "for the joy of the Lord is your strength." The devil has to flee when joy is present. Another way to obtain joy in your life is explained to us in Romans 14:17: "But righteousness and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost." Joy in the Holy Ghost? Yes.

Praying in the Holy Spirit causes joy to rise up in your spirit and help you to overcome the obstacles in your life. It is important to understand that you are not trying to get joy back in your life, it is already in you. Isaiah 12:3 explains it this way: "Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation."

When you are born again, that well of salvation is placed in you. It operates the same as a water well. You have to prime the pump in order for the water to come up. If water leaks out, you continue priming the pump until it fills up. The same way in the spirit, you have to "prime the pump" and get that joy back up by fellowshipping with the Father and praying in the Holy Ghost.

When all hell breaks loose, joy will get you through. I was not a joyful person until I gained revelation knowledge of God's Word and realized that joy had already been given to me - it just needed to be developed.

Through reading God's Word and praying in the Holy Spirit, my attitude about myself changed drastically as that joy became alive in me again. Joy is the force that repels oppression. I was no longer depressed. My marriage became happiness on earth. I started drawing joy out of that well and became more confident in myself in who I am in Christ.

I do not know what you are going through today, marriage problems, facing the second half of life, children leaving home, sickness, whatever it may be, you can have joy during it! Ask the Lord that you may receive. Get in the presence of the Lord where there is fullness of joy and pray in the Holy Spirit - that joy will get you over.

Happiness and joy are two different things. Happiness is temporal - it can change in a moment. It is derived from the circumstances around you; whereas, joy is the fruit of the Spirit, and it is derived from God who never changes!

Joy has nothing to do with the conditions that are around you, it has to do with your relationship and fellowship with the Lord. No matter what you are going through in your life today, you have a right to be joyful and triumph in Christ Jesus!
