Can a demon affect a person and not be inside of them?

Yes! Demons can affect a person in many minor ways, as well as in serious ways, without being inside of them. This happens through oppressions and fleeting evil thoughts.

Let's look at two Scriptures:
As well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed.
(Luke 6:18 NKJ)

Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
(Acts 5:16 NKJ)
A demon can torment a person from the outside. This word, torment, is translated from the Greek word "ochleo." This word means "to harass, disturb, or trouble, the mind or emotions."

This is not possession, but harassment of the mind and emotions. Demons will do this to Christians and non-Christians alike. They love to harass people who allow them to do so.

This harassment can be manifested through great phobias, inability to sleep, and extreme anxieties. Some anxieties are simply a result of a troubling situation, while demonic ones are out of control. I'm convinced that all phobias are demon related.

I have seen many people who suffer with great phobias healed completely as we've prayed for them. Remember, the demons in this case aren't in a person, they're harassing the person's mind and emotions.

You don't have to put up with this type of harassment. Have someone pray for you who knows his or her God given authority and you can be set free.
