Revelation knowledge is the very foundation upon which the church of the Lord Jesus Christ is built. Whether or not the church walks in victory or walks far below victory depends on whether or not it is exercising this very issue of revelation knowledge. That makes revelation knowledge important to the body of Christ, wouldn't you say?

Let's look at 1 Corinthians 2:12-14: "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

There are two kinds of knowledge in this world, sense knowledge and revealed knowledge. Sense or natural knowledge is gained through the five physical senses. It comes from what you hear, see, taste, touch, and smell. It's the kind of knowledge we gain in school and from life experiences. It is received from the outside in.

Then there is revealed or revelation knowledge. Revelation knowledge is revealed to you by the Holy Spirit. You don't get this kind of knowledge because you saw, heard, smelled, tasted, or felt something. This knowledge comes from the inside out.

Revealed Treasures for You
Colossians 2:2,3 says, "That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

God's supernatural treasure of wisdom and knowledge is hidden in Jesus. Why would God hide it? God hid it from Satan in order to keep it reserved for the believer. Satan can only operate by sense knowledge. Satan can only operate against believers in the natural realm; he can only deal with us through the five physical senses. That's why Satan wants to crush revelation knowledge, because he can't operate in it.

Colossians 1:9 says, "For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding."

The Greek Word for knowledge is "epignosis," which means exact, complete, full knowledge. Natural knowledge is fallible. It comes from the body; it comes from the outside in. Have you ever tried to communicate something to others, but you just didn't seem to get your point over to them correctly? Or, has someone tried to tell you something and you heard it wrong? It's imperfect, right? You can deduce certain things from what you think. You can feel a certain way about a matter only to find out later that you were wrong.

The Holy Ghost is the One Who Reveals
However, revealed knowledge from the Holy Ghost is exact. The Holy Ghost is in your spirit. He transmits knowledge from Himself to your spirit without error. Your spirit is a safe guide, because you are a new creation in Christ Jesus.

John 16:13 says, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come."

The word "show" means "to announce." The Holy Ghost will announce things to come; He will announce your future. Do you know the Holy Ghost knows what's going to happen on your job, in your future, and in your marriage? He knows what to do concerning your finances. He knows everything there is about you. Guess where that information resides - on the inside of you.

That's why praying in other tongues is so important. The more you pray in tongues, the more spiritually sensitive you become to what's in your spirit. Let me give you an example of this.

Several years ago, I was praying for an hour or two, seeking the face of God, and I heard the Holy Ghost say to me I heard Him announce: "I didn't tell you to go to such and such Bible school. I told you to go to Rhema." Now He said it in the past tense; He said, "I told you." In other words, The Holy Ghost had been telling me before, but I hadn't picked it up. Then He told me what he wanted me to do.

"But Bishop Butler, I don't understand what I'm saying when I pray in tongues." The Holy Ghost knows and the Father knows. But Satan doesn't know, because he can't get over into the realm of spirit or the realm of revelation.

The Rock is Revelation Knowledge
Matthew 16:16-18 tells us, "And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

Jesus said flesh and blood didn't reveal to Peter that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the Living God. This revelation didn't come the natural way through seeing, touching, hearing, tasting, or smelling. It came from "my Father which is in heaven." Then Jesus, "Thou art Peter " Or, "Peter, you are a rock." Jesus goes on to say, "...and upon this rock I will build my church..." The first rock, referring to Peter, is petros in the Greek, and it means a piece of rock; it is masculine. The second or actual word rock is feminine. It is petra in the Greek and means a mass of rock, literally or figuratively. It is upon this second rock, petra, that Jesus said He would build or confirm His church, the rock of revelation knowledge.

Matthew 16:19 begins, "And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven..." Those keys are revelation knowledge. Walking in revelation knowledge will strengthen your confidence in the promises of God; it will make your faith solid and cause you to walk by faith and not by sight. It will make you victorious over the devil. Praise God!

Revelation Keys
The keys to receiving revelation knowledge are obeying the Word of God and meditating in the Word of God. I will tell you right now that an individual who will not obey what God says about a matter is not going to receive revelation knowledge regarding that matter. You have to obey what God says about finances in order to receive revelation about finances. You have to obey what God says about walking in the love of God in order for you to be able to operate supernaturally around those who seem hard to love. You have to be obedient to the Word you already know.

The second key to receiving revelation knowledge is meditation in God's Word. The LORD said to Joshua, "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make that way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success" (Josh. 1:8). The word "meditate" means "to mutter." You should be saying what God says about a matter all the time. Talk to yourself; say what God says.

The word fasting means to go without food. Fasting is not for God's benefit; it's for your benefit. When you take the time to fast, along with prayer and meditation in the Word, what do you think will happen? You're going to get stronger spiritually and receive more revelation knowledge of the Word than you ordinarily would. Why? That is because you spent time paying attention to the Holy Ghost and meditating the Word.

Smokescreens
Mark 4:14-19 says:
The sower soweth the word. And these are they by the wayside, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended. And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
Jesus is talking about the Word in this parable. As I stated earlier, Satan doesn't want the believer to operate in revelation knowledge. This parable of the Sower Soweth the Word gives us the methods Satan uses to try to choke the Word or to try to stop us from receiving revelation knowledge.

The first method is affliction. Affliction can be any form of a test or trial. It can be an attack on your body or an attack on your family. Nearly any form of attack, except persecution, is an affliction. Satan will try to afflict you with something bad. Why? To draw your attention away from the Word and into the realm of the flesh, the realm in which he operates. There is no growth for you in the flesh realm. The growth is in the spirit realm. If he can get you off the Word and into thinking about the affliction, you have allowed him to put you in a position where you cannot receive revelation knowledge.

The next method is persecution. Persecution is pressure brought upon you by people. Satan will use people to come against you because of what you believe. They could be people who don't even know you. But all of a sudden you've become the prime topic of discussion. And, it's always somebody who's going to have an affect on you, somebody influential. Then they start talking to everybody else who will gather along with them. Satan uses the mouths of other people. Never allow your mouth to be used as an instrument of persecution against another believer.

Satan will also try to use the cares of this world to draw your attention away from the Word. A care is an overwhelming mental concern, worry, or anguish. Here's another couple of words for care what if. What brings about care is meditating on Satan's lies. Care is a thorn and care chokes.

Five times in the sixth chapter of Matthew's gospel (Matt. 6:25, 6:27, 6:38, 6:31, 6:34), Jesus admonishes us not to take the care or thoughts regarding the natural things of this life. What is He telling us? Don't cut off your revelation. Instead, "seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matt. 6:33).

Rejoice!
Philippians 4:4,6 tells us to "Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice...Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." You mean we ought to rejoice when we're getting persecuted? The Scripture says to rejoice. The Holy Ghost understands that if you stay over in the area of rejoicing, you're staying over in the realm of faith where God can reveal to you what you need in order to win. If Satan can't seal your joy, he can't get your goods. Joy is not of the flesh; joy is a fruit of the spirit (Gal. 5:22).

Spend time with God. Don't let Satan steal your revelation; all of his attacks are equivalent to smoke in the face of God's Word. God has the answers to all you face in life. It's been hidden for you so that nobody else can get it, and He's ready to bless you with you. Revelation knowledge is yours; it belongs to you so walk in it!
