God never said that we wouldn't have tests and trials. But He did promise us in Isaiah 40:31 that He would renew our strength if we wait upon Him - if we stay consistently before Him in prayer and in the study of His Word.

"To renew" means to remodel or restore something until it's just like new. If you've ever remodeled an old car, then you know what I'm talking about. You have to pull that old car apart down to its frame and then put it all back together with new parts. You put in a new motor, new brake lines, new electrical wires, new shocks - new everything. Then you redo the whole interior and give the body a fresh paint job. After the car is finished, it looks as if it just came off the assembly line, because it's been completely renewed.

Well, in the same way, we can begin to show a little bit of wear and tear from the everyday stress and strain of living in this world. But we can get into the Word and learn how to get our strength renewed by the power of God.

Isaiah 40:31 says, "... they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles...."

Mount up. Those are two good words. Being from Texas, I've ridden plenty of horses. If I rounded up a horse and told you, 'Mount up,' I'd really be telling you to get on the horse. You could stand around all day holding on to the horn of the saddle, but you'd never go anywhere until you actually got on the horse. However, once you mount up and get in the saddle, that horse will carry you where you want to go.

There's been many a cowboy who couldn't swim across a wide river, but his horse could carry him to the other side. The same thing is true concerning your walk with God. There are many places you can't go and many things you can't overcome alone. But if you wait upon the Lord and mount up on the wings of the Holy Spirit, so to speak, the Lord will carry you through every test, trial, and temptation until you come out victoriously on the other side.

Waiting upon the Lord doesn't mean you just sit back and do nothing. That's why the Bible says, "they that wait upon the Lord shall mount up".

You see, many times in the midst of a trial or tribulation, people sit back, fold their hands, and do nothing. They say they're waiting on the Lord, yet they're really just trying to justify why they're not taking their responsibility as they should. But God said that He would bless whatever they set their hands to (Deut. 23:20).

The Lord once said to me, "Many people say they're in faith and they're waiting upon Me when they really aren't at all. Those who are waiting upon Me, those who truly know what faith is and what it means to believe Me, are moving up and out of their situations."

Friend, have you been waiting upon the Lord concerning a particular need in your life, but it seems as if nothing is happening? You may need to check and see whether or not you've really been waiting upon Him in faith.

Those who truly wait upon God according to the Word won't always remain in the same desperate condition. They may start out in a position of crisis, overwhelmed by problems or circumstances. But as they wait upon God, following His Word and doing what He says, they move out of that position.

So I ask you this question: "What are you waiting on?"

Learn to wait upon the Lord. And you'll find that instead of floundering around in a state of weakness, your strength will be renewed, and you'll "mount up on wings as eagles."
