God has placed the desire to fly in the heart of every young eagle. The eagle yearns to get up to the rarified stratosphere of the heavens, close to the sun, and close to Him who is indeed King over the earth. He is wired to reign in the majesty that he was created to beautifully exemplify. That desire is buried in the heart of every young eagle—but if they did what they wanted to do, there is a chance those eaglets would never leave the comfort of their nest.

With many Christians, it's the same thing. Just as God has placed a desire in the eagle to fly, He's placed within each one of our hearts a vision and desire to reach toward the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. We’re wired to reach for what He's called us to do, whatever that dream may be. For many, though, mediocrity has become the keynote for our lives because we don't want to leave the comfort of the nest.

What is your dream? a business idea? a witty invention? a call to the ministry? Too many Christians hang onto the comfort of their nest and miss that high calling of God. They need to take a step of faith, leave the nest, and follow the dream God has placed in their hearts.

I dreamed of an airline business when I was a pilot in the military. I hung onto the dream for 2-3 years, and it came to pass. When I entered the ministry, I had to let go of the “nest” of being financially secure in a nice business making good income.
God gave Joseph a dream that promised deliverance for his people and prosperity and safety for his family. Because he hung onto his dream and let go of the nest, his dream came to fruition.

What dream has God put in your heart? What nest do you have to leave behind?

Some people feel like they don’t have a dream. Others don't dream because they are afraid it won't happen. They are afraid they won’t be able to fly and would prefer to stay in the comfort of the nest. What they need to do is learn to trust God their Father to catch them if they fall. Then, and only then, will they be able to step out and pursue the dream God has put in their hearts.

What's your dream? Let God define and refine that dream for you. Just as certainly as He's placed within a small eagle that compulsion to fly, He's given you the capacity to dream big and do something for Him. The only thing that stands between you and the realization of that dream is the comfort of your nest. You need to step out of the nest and know that as you do so in faith, your Heavenly Father will be with you. During your first time out, you may not make it far as you test your “wings,” but your Heavenly Father will be watching over you and catch you if you fall.

How big are you willing to dream? Are you ready to step over the edge of the nest? Know that as you do, God will be there to uphold you and your dream will come to pass.
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
