What is prayer? What is the purpose of prayer? How do we pray? Jesus is our example, our role model. Jesus prayed in the temple, in crowds, on the hillsides cluttered with people, in a crowded upper room, and alone on a mountaintop outside of Jerusalem.

The definition of prayer is "communion, an intermingling of two lives, or intimate conversation." Prayer is communion with God. Webster's defines "commune" as to converse privately. Fellowship is another word for communing. He has chosen to have fellowship, companionship, partnership with us.

Long before he laid down earth's foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus for his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us unto his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.

We are His child because of what Jesus did.

You Are Welcome In The Throne Room

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
(Hebrews 4:16)

Our God is faithful, and His grace is sufficient for whatever it is that we are challenged with on a daily basis. We do not have to beg to try to get something from God. We have been given authority, the Name of Jesus, and access to the very throne room of God. Everything is available to us through God's Word.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God…but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.
(Romans 8:14-17)

We are children of God and heirs to Christ the anointed one.

If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father Who is in heaven [perfect as He is] give good and advantageous things to those who keep on asking Him!

Have we been asking enough and going before the throne enough? Have we been thinking we can do it in our own power, our own might, our own strength, and with our own hands? God wants to bless us, desires fellowship with us, and wants intimacy with us. When you are sincere in your love toward your heavenly Father and you seek His face, you will unfailingly see His hand.

Invite Him In
E. M. Bounds says, "In prayer you align yourself to the purpose and the power of God. He is able to do things through you He could not do otherwise…For God has left certain things open to prayer, things which will never be done except we pray." When we pray we are doing God's business.

God has to have legal entry into the earth to do things, and we invite Him through prayer. When God appeared to Abraham He said, "You serve me and I will bless you." When Abraham agreed to serve God, then God had an entrance into the earth.

When Abraham started asking, then God started moving. When you ask, God will move in your behalf. John Wesley, said this, "God is limited by our prayer life. It seems God can do nothing on earth unless someone asks Him to."

John 16:24 says, "Ask in my name and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full." It is a rule that cannot be altered—ask and ye shall receive. Even Jesus had to pray and ask. Psalm 2:8 says, "Ask of me and I will give you the heathen for thine inheritance and the uttermost part of the earth for thy possession."

Jesus was not exempt from the rule of asking, so you and I cannot expect the rule to be relaxed for us. What argument can there be that we should be deprived of the privilege and delivered from the necessity of prayer. God said He would bless Elijah and send rain, but Elijah had to pray for it first.

If the chosen nation under Samuel was to prosper, Samuel had to plead for it first. If the Jews were to be delivered, Daniel had to intercede for it. If the nations were to be converted through Paul, Paul had to pray without ceasing.

Webster's defines the word "ask" as to question, to solicit, to request, to invite, to require, and to desire. Those words all represent what we do when we ask God to move in our behalf. Jeanne Wilkerson says in her book Contact with God that the word "ask" is a significant word. It does not just refer to God giving you something you requested, but it links you up with God in divine communion and your will becomes His will.

We actually become His voice in this generation. The earth will be silent without your voice. Isaiah 18-22 says that "none say 'Restore.'" You have to start declaring, "Lord, restore. Give back to me what Satan has stolen, my health, my family, and my finances." Your voice must be heard.

Your Secret Weapon
Prayer is the believer's secret weapon. Prayer is like a missile that can be fired toward any spot on earth, travel undetected at the speed of thought, and hit the target every time. Prayer tears down walls and makes things accessible that were inaccessible. Prayer gives direction and answers where there were none.

Matthew 7:7 (AMP) says, "Keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened." Prayer will give hope in every situation. Prayer is the key to victory in your life! Use your secret weapon to change the world!
