I'm single and I'd like to know if sex before marriage is wrong. Will God punish the Christian who does this?

The Bible teaches that sexual activity before marriage is wrong and calls it fornication. Here is one of many Scriptures that reveals that this sin is forbidden and punishable by God.
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles (non-Christians) who do not know God; that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother (male or female) in this matter (sexual immorality), because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified.

For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.
(1 Thess. 4:3-8)
The will of God is for us to abstain from all sexual immorality whether we are single or married. God wants us to resist lust and live holy and sanctified lives. The Bible also states that the Lord will avenge all who sin in this way.

Whether it is in this life or the next, Christians will have to answer for sexual sin. It is wonderful to know that God has given us power over sin, including sexual sin, and that we can walk in liberty and holiness (It is also important to note that God approves and promotes healthy sex inside the marital union. He created sex!)
