Genesis 2:18 in the Amplified Bible says, “Now God said, it is not [sufficient, satisfactory] that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper meet (suitable, adapted, completing) for him.” God basically said, “I’m going to make a helper for Adam who will be compatible, suitable, and like him. I’m going to make another human being who will complement him, and who will be complemented by him.”

Women have a unique design and specific purpose. When God created Eve, He formed her by taking a rib from Adam’s side as he slept. She was created within a relationship. I believe the way in which she was created represents her oneness with Adam and her connection with the heart of mankind.

We bring unique skills and talents into a relationship. For example, many women today juggle many roles. As mothers, we can manage a household, give birth to our children, and raise and nurture them. As sisters and friends, we can soothe and encourage others, and listen attentively with both our natural ears and the ears of our hearts. As wives, we can provide a loving and nurturing environment for our spouses. We also are unique in our roles as counselors, teachers, friends, servants, managers, and accountants. God gives us amazing talents and gifts!

As women, we are so valuable to the plan of God that creation wouldn’t be complete without us. It is okay for us to embrace our unique design. I believe that we should continually pray to receive God’s guidance our specific roles in life. We should realize that in the eyes of our Father, we are valued as His helpers.

Additionally, many of our attributes are similar to those of the Holy Spirit. When Jesus described the function of the Holy Spirit to His disciples, He called Him the Comforter. In John 16:7, the Amplified Bible goes into detail about the Comforter being the “Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, and Standby.” Jesus also noted that the Holy Spirit would be in “close fellowship” with the disciples.

Although God gave women attributes similar to those of the Holy Spirit, it is important to keep in mind that we are not the Holy Spirit! We shouldn’t try to take over His position, in our lives or in the lives of others. He is the Helper, and we need His help. Amen! Many times we try to take on too much. However, we were not designed to carry everyone’s burdens and loads. The empowerment of God removes them. This is why we have to rely on Him for clarity and wisdom on how to function in our roles on a day-to-day basis.

I believe the Proverbs 31 woman embraced all the good that was in her. She understood the treasure she had within, and how to bless others with it. When we think of the Proverbs 31 woman we shouldn’t see her as a woman who is perfect. Neither should we see her as a standard by which we create a lot of demands and rules for ourselves. Instead, we should focus on her as a woman, who honored and esteemed her relationship with God.

One of the ways we honor God is by accepting His ultimate plan and purpose for our lives. We discover who we are by looking into the mirror of His Word. His Word shows us a reflection of who we are at the core of our beings. He then empowers us to acknowledge the good within us and to allow that goodness to positively impact those we come in contact with.
