Shortly before his death in 1975, the British historian Arnold Toynbee said, "What I have been trying to tell the West is that the world, the real world is Asia."

Had he lived longer, he would have seen his prophetic words fleshed out in terms of skyscrapers, freeways, manufacturing, and growth. The once sleepy giant of China is now a major player in our world. That fact was visibly driven home a few days ago as I viewed slides (yes, we used to have them) of our ministry in China starting in 1978. Whereas bicycles filled streets in the 70s and 80s, freeways are jammed with imported vehicles today as skyscrapers pierce the skies.

Asia constitutes 8.6% of the Earth's total surface area, yet upon this continent live 4 billion-plus people—all of whom are important to the Lord. In vast areas of Asia, Buddhism reigns unchallenged; however, praying before the Buddha doesn't change hearts and lives. The simple story of one who left heaven for planet Earth, lived among us for 33 years, died for the sins of the world and rose again brings forgiveness and hope for heaven.

That's why Guidelines targets people — no matter where they are — who need the Lord. As you receive this Darlene and I will be on a five-week journey to Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, and the Philippines. Ministry in these countries will include seminars and conferences, speaking in churches to various groups including pastors and their wives, launching three new books: Why You Can Have Confidence in the Bible in Burmese, What You Need to Know to be a Successful Parent in Cambodian, and When You Need Healing in English which will be launched at St. Luke's Hospital in Manila.

Saddleback Church has made 1,000 copies of Confidence in the Bible available in conjunction with their "40 Days in the Word" campaign. The book answers the question, "Can the Bible really be trusted?" As a Facebook friend wrote, "At the end of the day and at the end of life the Bible and God are the only things that are absolutely trustworthy. Dr. Sala's book builds confidence and assurance. Thanks and Shalom!"

As Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, "Finally brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you" (2 Thess. 3:1). Your prayers are very important as we lift up the cross as the source of hope for a weary, broken world! You count!
