"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" (Gen. 1:27 KJV).

Whether you are a male or a female, you were made just like God. God is a spirit, and you are a spirit. He is the Creator; we are the creation.

Since God is our Creator, we must be able to communicate with Him. Another way of saying this is that we need to spend time in prayer with God.

In Genesis 1:27, the word image means resemblance and a representative figure. The word likeness means manner or conduct. You can say it like this, "God said, let us make man in our resemblance, as a representative figure, and make them to act like us."

You were made to act just like God.

A Higher Level
When you live according to the Spirit or according to the Word of God, you're able to see the way God sees. You are able to think the way God thinks. You are able to act the way God acts. You are not living by what your body wants. You do what the Word of God says. You do the things that will teach you to conduct yourself on a higher level—as a spirit-being that represents God in everything you do.

You are probably familiar with fractions. If I had to find the sum of 2/3 + 1/6 there is one vital element that must be discovered before the sum can be calculated. You must find the least common denominator, because a third cannot be added to a sixth. It is impossible.

In the same manner, God knew that He had to create man in such a way as to communicate with Him. Man is no match for God in the fleshly realm. God is God and man's flesh is created from the dust of the earth.

Therefore, God decided to put His spirit inside of man so that He could communicate with him. The spirit part of us is the common denominator.

We communicate with God spirit to Spirit. And even though man was separated from God when Adam sinned, through Jesus we can be one with the Father again.

When you accept Jesus as your Lord, you can now communicate with the Father because you have the same spiritual denominator.
