If we think about it, often, there is at least one amazing Christmas that stands out in our minds. I mean something that was just perfect from start to finish.
For me, that Christmas was when I was 10 years old. My sister and I woke up that morning and with our parents watching we tore into the gifts. In the calm after the storm, I sat proudly with a football, Red Ryder BB gun, and a complete Lionel train set. That was it, I knew I wouldn't need another thing for the rest of my life! Or at least that's how I felt.
Now, as great as that was, there is something that far surpasses the best gift any of us could ever imagine. We've been given a gift that truly is everything we'll ever need: God's Son and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the greatest gift: the original Christmas gift.
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
(Matt. 1:23 KJV)
Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirits power. Soon He became well known throughout the surrounding country. He taught in their synagogues and was praised by everyone. When He came to the village of Nazareth, His boyhood home, He went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scripture’s. The scroll containing the messages of Isaiah the prophet was handed to Him, and He unrolled the scroll to the place where it says:
Names for Christ — Our Gift From GodHe rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. Everyone in the synagogue stared at him intently. Then He said, This Scripture has come true today before your very eyes!
- The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
- For he has appointed me to preach Good News to the poor.
- He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,
- That the blind will see,
- That the downtrodden will be freed from their oppressors,
- And that the time of the Lords favor has come.

(Col. 1:27 NKJV)
I am the Alpha and the Omega – the beginning and the end, says the Lord God. I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come, The Almighty One.
